The Glenfarclas Distillery was founded in 1836 on the Recherlich Farm at Ballindalloch in the heart of Speyside. In 1865 the distillery was purchased by John Grant for £551.19s.Od, and to this day Glenfarclas has been distilling whisky for six generations by one family; the Grants. After the death of John Grant in 1889, it was time for his son Georg to run the distillery. Sadly, he died shortly after, leaving the distillery to his widow Barbara. She gave the business to her two eldest children, John and George. George S. Grant's son John L.S Grant joined Glenfarclas in 1973, and succeeded his father as Chairman in 2002. John L.S Grants son is also in the business and represent sixth generation of whisky making in the Grant Family.

Glenfarclas 12 YO Speyside Single Malt

This 12-year-old single malt from Glenfarclas has a lot of sherry and fruit in it, and was originally thought for the export and travel market. In 2006, it was named the "Best Sherried Whisky" in the Single Malt World Cup, and in 2007 and 2008, it won Gold at the Stockholm Beer and Whisky Festival.

Tasting:

Nose: Light and creamy with a mix of supple, honey and soft sherry. It is gentle and well-balanced, with hints of smoke, rich oak, and a little pine resin.

Palate: Medium-bodied, with notes of date and walnut cake, Oloroso sherry and hints of earthy forest floor. Beautiful end notes of malt, with toffee apple and a touch of smoke.

Finish: Spicy and long, notes of allspice, cinnamon and cloves, with orange zest and sherry.
