Alexander Stein received a call in 2006 that would change his life. He was working with Nokia and living in the US. An old friend from Germany called him up and told him the story about the Air Force One pilot, who moved to Germany after World One Two, to help rebuild the Berlin Zoo. Here he met a little money Max, with whom he became friends. After the rebuild, he moved to a big and dark forest called Schwartzwald where he began making Gin. He used all the ingredients he could find in the forest and mixed them into the gin. Alexander Stein was so captivated by the story that he wanted to relive the gin. Therefore, he hired the master distiller Christoph Keller, and together they build The Monkey Drum Distillers.
Monkey 47 Sloe Gin
After World War Two the Air Force One pilot, Montgomery Collins moved to Berlin to help in the rebuild of the Zoo. Here he became friends with a monkey called Max. After the end of the rebuild, the pilot moved to Schwartzwald and began making gin. During a renovation of an old hotel, which was owned by Montgomery Collins, they found a little box, where there was a bottle of gin and the recipe for it. This Monkey Sloe in is another edition of the Monkey 47 Gin, and made with handpicked blackthorn, and distilled at 29%, and belongs at the top of gin products.
Tasting
Nose: Very aromatic and complex nose. Huge fruit notes and quite a good deal of juniper too. Ribs and almonds.
Palate: A mix of earthy, tangy juniper with rich, sweet red berries. Very refined and balanced. Hints of almond, blackcurrant and cherries.
Finish: Nutty, tart finish.
To redress the above injustice we should now raise a glass and toast the original Dr. Sylvius, Sylvius de Bouve, for kindly inventing gin. Exactly what affliction Dr. Sylvius was trying to cure is murky, with applications of the new medicine ranging from back pain to cold feet, insomnia and more. While Dr. Sylvius fretted about matters medical, his patients and friends swiftly realized that the new medicine had quite a few non-medicinal applications.
