Skin Gin Distillery

The Skin Gin Distillery is located near Hamburg and created by Martin Birk Jensen, a Danish former businessman. The first bottle was released in March 2015. Martin founded the distillery in 2014, wanting to make something different. He had the feeling that many of the gin brands on the market tasted similar to one another and while delicious, once mixed with tonic people had difficulties telling the gins apart. He set out to create something that was different in both flavor and appearance to all the gins he had seen.

Skin Gin

All the botanicals in this gin is hand-picked and distilled on a base of wheat alcohol before being mixed with spring water. The distillery wanted to create a less herbal and more aromatic experience; therefore, they use four different citrus such as lime, orange, lemon and grapefruit peel. It also contains juniper, Vietnamese coriander seed, and Moroccan mint. They use a distillation where the botanicals are separately distilled in two different styles of Arnold Holstein stills. This method is slightly unconventional compared to many gins. Once each ingredient has been distilled, a careful blend of the separate liquids is made to create the final spirit.

Tasting:

Nose: Fragrant, fresh, with mint, and pink grapefruit notes.

Palate: Crisp and clean. With mint, citrus and coriander

Finish: Fresh and light, with menthol & citrus
